NEW YORK—5W Public Relations has acquired boutique public relations agency Handelsman Public Relations, a generalist firm with a strong focus on media relations. Adam Handelsman, the firm’s founder and principal, will join 5W as a senior vice president and will manage the firm’s corporate communications group.

Clients serviced by Handelsman Public Relations include The Mercantile Capital Group, a private equity firm based in New York and Chicago, and Cardinal Health’s Pyxis PatientStation, a leading provider of products and services supporting the health care industry. Both will become clients of 5W.

Prior to forming his own agency, Handelsman served as director of public relations and corporate communications for Netpulse, a San Francisco company headed by Thomas Prouix, founder of Intuit. Earlier in his career, he was a senior account supervisor at Kratz & Company, senior publicist at The Hearst Book Group and partner with New Concept Entertainment.

5W has been aggressively pursuing acquisition opportunities, and in January bought travel public relations boutique SMS Public Relations.
