NEW YORK—5W Public Relations, the fast-growing two-year-old Manhattan-based public relations firm that recently reiterated its desire to acquire smaller firms, has merged SMS Public Relations into its operations. With the deal, SMS president Stephen Schechter joins 5W as associate vice president and will oversee a variety of travel and corporate accounts for the agency.

SMS PR was a full service PR agency with a client list that included International SOS Assistance, Nikon USA, AMSEC International, ITT, The Ashforth Company, J. R. Simplot Company, Crucible Security Specialists, the Diamond & Jewelry Business Improvement District and others. Before starting his own firm, Schechter was vice president at Burson-Marsteller, The Rowland Company, and Hill & Knowlton.

Miles Ehrenkranz, former assistant to Senator Joe Lieberman has also joined the firm as an account executive and will report to Schechter.

5W founder Ronn Torossian says he expected to make two additional acquisitions in the coming months.

Schechter, meanwhile, says, “5W Public Relations will allow our clients additional opportunities and more results. Its team of professionals and diverse client base appealed to us as a chance to grow.”
