SEATTLE—Susannah Malarkey, former executive director of the Technology Alliance, has joined APCO Worldwide as a senior advisor based in its Seattle office. Malarkey served as the founding executive director for the Technology Alliance, an organization founded by Bill Gates Sr. to act as a hub for advocacy work for the technology industry. In addition to her work with the Technology Alliance, Malarkey served on the board of the Washington Technology Industry Association, and is a former director of public policy programs with the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce.

SEATTLE—WE Communications has appointed Steve Kerns as general manager and senior vice president for its San Francisco office. Reporting to executive vice president Katie Huang Shin, Kerns joins after serving as senior vice president at Text 100 in San Francisco. Before that, he held senior positions at Edelman and FleishmanHillard. In addition, senior vice president Nicole Miller has relocated from Seattle and will lead the agency's cybersecurity efforts from San Francisco.

NEW YORK—Grayling has named Adam Emery executive vice president and head of the agency's national technology practice, reporting into US CEO Peter Harris. Prior to joining Grayling, Emery held a number of senior communications positions at BlackBerry, rising to the global head of corporate communications role. Before BlackBerry, he ran Hill+Knowlton Strategies' New York technology practice. 

WASHINGTON, DC—Environics Communications has promoted Mimi Carter to senior vice president and general manager in the Washington, DC office. Carter joined Environics in 2015 as vice president with more than 20 years of experience in marketing and public relations. Previously, she was vice president of communications and marketing at the Corcoran Gallery of Art & Corcoran College of Art + Design.

LOS ANGELES—Monica Bouldin has joined R&R Partners as vice president. Bouldin most recently served as executive vice president and general manager for Hill+Knowlton Strategies in Southern California. Prior to her tenure with H+K, she worked for Edelman and Ogilvy PR Worldwide, both in the Los Angeles market. Bouldin has also worked with Ruder Finn, and served in house for both Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Fox Broadcasting Company. She has worked with brands including Virgin America, Nestle, Hilton Prestige Portfolio, Microsoft XBox, and Rolls Royce of North America.

MINNEAPOLIS—Tunheim has added Jen Gates and Erin Jones to its team of consulting professionals. Gates most recently worked in the office of Gov. Mark Dayton since 2011, holding multiple campaign and public policy roles. Jones is returning to Tunheim from Thomson Reuters after previously working at the firm as an intern and has experience in media relations, business-to-business communications, public affairs and digital content creation.
