NEW YORK—Edelman Public Relations, the world’s largest independent and family-owned public relations firm, and APCO Worldwide, which two years ago bought itself back from parent Grey Advertising, were among the honorees in the regional Entrepreneur of the Year awards, presented by professional services giant Ernst & Young.
The Entrepreneur Of The Year awards recognize “outstanding entrepreneurs who are building and leading dynamic and growing businesses,” according to E&Y. The program honors entrepreneurs through regional, national and global award programs in over 100 cities and 35 countries. The regional award winners are now eligible for consideration for the national Entrepreneur of the Year award for 2006, to be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California on November 18.
Edelman chief executive Richard Edelman received an award in the Lifetime Achievement category at the New York awards dinner, with the judges citing the firms growth and leadership over more than 50 years and singling out Edelman’s commitment to long-term client service; private and independent ownership; ethics and integrity; as well as personal efforts by Richard and his father and agency founder Dan Edelman to give back to the communities in which they operate.
Margery Kraus, APCO president and chief executive officer, received the Greater Washington award in the services category.
According to Kraus, “This award is a reflection on the entrepreneurial spirit that is embraced by APCO staff worldwide. I am impressed daily by the commitment our staff has to our clients and to the future for our company.”
APCO began with one person, Kraus, in 1984 and now has more than 450 practitioners in 25 offices in major business, political and media centers throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
