SAN FRANCISCO—Applied Communicationshas named vice president Joshua Reynolds and directors Shannon O’Neill and Sean Garrett as global leads of the firm’s analyst relations, media relations and policy communications practices respectively.

The creation of these new practice networks is designed to intensify Applied’s “best practices” approach to public relations, the practice networks leaders will leverage the firm’s core disciplines, contacts and resources to deliver sustainable competitive advantage across clients. The practices build on Applied’s research-based, market-centric approach to provide expert consulting and implementation services in the areas of analyst relations, media relations and policy communications.

“The practice networks embody what Applied does best—infuse competitive, research-based approaches into each aspect of traditional public relations,” said Tim Marklein, senior vice president and partner of Applied. “Analyst relations, media relations and policy communications are core PR disciplines, and these leaders will ensure that our ‘baseline’ PR activities stay innovative and competitive.

“Blending specialists and generalists within an account team helps ensure our clients receive maximum results and value across all key stakeholders.”

The practice networks comprise formal cross-client teams, working under the leadership of specialist experts, to leverage Applied’s core disciplines and contacts regardless of account assignments. They offer a wide variety of services including executive counsel, specialized research, influencer outreach, launch implementation and third-party feedback.

Reynolds is a former analyst at Gartner Group/Dataquest who has been instrumental in helping Applied refine its methodologies for messaging, positioning and creative brainstorming for effective campaigns. O’Neill, who recently returned to Applied from Spark PR to lead the media relations network, has eight years of high-tech PR experience. Garrett developed, launched and grew one of Silicon Valley’s first tech policy communications group at Alexander Ogilvy and has managed communications for several statewide and international political campaigns and served on the media relations staff for California Governor Pete Wilson.
