New people at Edelman; new business at SPRG, Waggener Edstrom, Bite, The Hallway.

SYDNEY—Edelman Australia has named Fern Canning (pictured) as director of its consumer practice, based in Sydney. Canning brings more than 12 years of experience working in London on global consumer marketing communications strategy for brands including several in the Procter & Gamble and Diageo portfolios.

BEIJING—Qualcomm, a leading provider of wireless technology and services, has appointed Strategic Public Relations Group to manage its ecosystem marketing in mainland China. SPRG has been brought on board to assist Qualcomm in the areas of branding, industry events management and social media support, as well as integrate the developers’ resources and set up its developer community.

SINGAPORE—Waggener Edstrom has been retained by Johns Hopkins Singapore in Asia Pacific. WE Healthcare will be responsible for developing and implementing integrated public relations programs in Singapore and Indonesia to support the healthcare pioneer. The firm will deliver localized brand strategy, storytelling, digital content, influencer relations, profiling of key opinion leaders, and public education campaigns to further connect researchers, providers, and patients with JHS.

BEIJING—Bite has been appointed by AIA China, one of Asia’s leading life insurance company, as consultant services agency. The firm will manage an integrated program which harnesses the power of social, PR and strategic sponsorships.

SYDNEY—The Hallway has added two new clients to its PR roster this month, after winning the competitive pitch for Australian Lychees and acquiring the Australian Mangoes account. The firm picked up the Australian Cherries business in June, and will now manage PR, social media and experiential work for all three summer fruits.
