WASHINGTON, D.C., May 20—Larry Snoddon, former vice chairman of Young & Rubicam and chief executive officer of Burson-Marsteller, has joined public affairs firm APCO Worldwide as vice chairman. Snoddon’s responsibilities will include senior client counsel, business development, working as part of the firm’s 20-person senior advisory council and participating in strategic development of the firm.

Snoddon said he had fielded a number of offers, but was attracted to APCO because “they have as many senior people, per capita, as any agency, and their genesis in the public affairs arena gives them an interesting positioning. Coming out of the recession, and the scandals of the last year, CEOs are going to be putting a lot of energy and a lot of money behind rebuilding reputation, and APCO—with its emphasis on public affairs and social responsibility—is going to be well positioned.”

Although Snoddon has a background in public affairs—he was head of Burson-Marsteller’s Washington office before taking over as CEO—he says he expects to be involved in broader corporate communications, investor relations, and crisis counseling.

“I wanted to be involved with clients rather than on the management side of the business,” said Snoddon, who had a client-centric role after moving from B-M to Y&R, where his role involved helping clients decide how to integrate the holding company’s various communications disciplines.

According to APCO president and CEO Margery Kraus, “Larry’s extensive experience in corporate and public affairs, integrated communications and global firm management will be invaluable to APCO as we move to the next stage in our development. One of APCO’s strengths is our ability to offer clients high-level and strategic service.

“Larry is the perfect fit as we continue to grow rapidly and expand our capabilities while providing top notch client service. For more than 25 years, Larry has been at the center of external affairs and communications in major global companies.”

Snoddon was most recently vice chairman and a member of the executive committee and board of directors of Young & Rubicam. He had previously served as president and CEO of Burson-Marsteller, then the world’s largest public relations firm, and as president of B-M Americas and president of its European operation.
