LONDON—Bahrain’s Economic Development Board (EDB) has suspended its global PR brief with UK PR firm Bell Pottinger, following the sustained outbreak of unrest in the Gulf kingdom.

The development comes after the Holmes Report revealed that Edelman’s US work on behalf of Bahrain’s EDB, which is subcontracted from Bell Pottinger, was also halted last month.

Bell Pottinger won the global account, which aims to promote inward investment into Bahrain, in early 2009. Since February, Bahrain has been rocked by protests, culminating in the imposition of a state of emergency on 15 March.

It is understood that the global EDB PR assignment was halted shortly after a state of emergency was declared in the country.

In the US, meanwhile, Bahrain has begun working with fledgling Washington DC lobbying outfit, the Potomac Square Group.
