CHICAGO—Bally Total Fitness has named Matthew Messinger to the newly created position of senior director of media development and communications.  Messinger is to manage the company’s East Coast efforts and will report to Jon Harris, vice president of communications and media development at Bally.

“Any of our general managers will tell you that strong ties to the local community are vital to the success of their clubs.  The addition of Matt brings an on-the-ground presence that will be critical as we penetrate deeper into Bally’s local communities across the East Coast to strengthen communications and generate goodwill for our clubs,” said says Harris.

Prior to Bally, Messinger was a vice president at GCI Group where he handled media relations for several publicly trade companies including Sabre Holdings, Resources Connection, Payless Shoesource and The Children’s Place. Previously, he spent seven years with MWW Group where he was hired as an account executive and advanced to the level of vice president in the firm’s corporate communications department.

At MWW, he worked on the Bally Total Fitness and other accounts.
