SAN FRANCISCO—Bay Area public relations firm MacKenzie Communications and Burr Pilger & Mayer, one of the Bay Area's largest accounting, auditing, tax and business consulting firms, have joined forces to introduce a new offering to organizations that want to measure, evaluate and communicate the value of their corporate responsibility programs.

The new venture is called BPM | MacKenzie and will be headquartered in San Francisco. The principals, BPM managing partner Stephen Mayer and MacKenzie president Janis MacKenzie believe the venture is the first CSR-focused combination of accounting and communications firms in the country, and will help organizations quantify the value of their initiatives and communicate them to stakeholders.

According to Mayer, "Corporate responsibility isn't just the right thing to do, it's the smart thing to do. It has a major bottom-line impact on a company's performance, relationship with stakeholders, and also benefits the planet. What could be better?"

The new practice will be headed by James Murphy, former associate director of the Global Reporting Initiative, an Amsterdam-based organization that provides guidelines for corporate sustainability reporting. Most recently, he managed external relations for the International Institute for Strategic Studies, a London-based think tank.
