SAN DIEGO—Berkman, a San Diego-based public relations, branding, and new media firm, has been retained by Sanyo North America Corporation, a subsidiary of Sanyo Electric Co. of Japan, a leading provider of environment- and energy-related products. Berkman will assist Sanyo with public relations, community outreach, government relations and media relations efforts in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The firm will focus on the company’s solar divisions and assist with corporate messaging based on Sanyo’s “Think Gaia” brand positioning

“Berkman has an excellent reputation and we expect the same capabilities and success with national media outreach as firms in the larger cities, like L.A. or New York,” says Akihiko Oiwa, director of corporate communications for Sanyo North America.  “We are extremely pleased they are so centrally located near our North American headquarters and have been duly impressed with their deep understanding and ability to meet our needs.”

Berkman recently supported Sanyo at Solar Power International, the largest solar power trade show in North America, holding a press conference with Sanyo’s key executives to communicate new business strategies for the solar division and the “Think Gaia” vision. The firm has also helped Sanyo with various media relations initiatives as it announced the expansion of its North American solar operations in Oregon and Mexico.
