LONDON, July 17—Blanc & Otus, the technology public relations subsidiary of Hill & Knowlton, is opening a new communications consultancy in London, its first entry into the European market. The firm is designed to meet “the 21st century PR needs of start-up and high-growth technology firms across Europe,” and will be led by Zena Martin, former associate director at U.K. technology consultancy Firefly.

With its headquarters in Silicon Valley, the firm says it will have better access than any competitor to the world’s greatest pool of PR and technology expertise and contacts.  It will offer a range of products that give UK and European clients access to B&O’s 18-year track record of technology PR expertise.

“Technology firms must be both desirable and credible to influencers and buyers to get a foot in the door and close the deal,” said Martin. “In short, the technology industry needs a communications makeover. And to that end, B&O has just one mission: to spice up UK technology companies so that they can penetrate new markets, both at home, in Europe and globally.”

Simon Glazer, formerly senior associate director in Hill & Knowlton’s corporate technologies practice in London, will join Martin as deputy managing director.

Says Greg Spector, Blanc & Otus president and chief executive officer, “We are committed to growing Blanc & Otus into a global tech PR mega-brand, and we see the UK as a vital bridge between the United States and European markets.  We are extremely proud of our dynamic London team, led by Zena, that will promote the cause of UK and European technology businesses while helping foreign companies understand how they need to communicate with UK media and end-customers.”

B&O U.K. has already won its first client, E.piphany, in a competitive pitch.  The agency will handle U.K. media and analyst relations for the customer relationship management software company, and will provide pan-European network co-ordination working with E.piphany’s existing PR agencies and B&O’s European network.
