LOS ANGELES, October 11—Most technology public relations shops are suffering through the downturn, but some are still pressing ahead with expansion plans. Bob Gold & Associates, which serves cable television and telecommunications industries, has named Dave Wood as vice president, public relations and head of its new office in Cambridge.

Wood will be responsible for heading East Coast operations, helping develop and manage new accounts, and supervising staff hiring. His first client is Schaumburg-based ClearBand, which is bringing TV and video programming to broadband connected PCs.

Wood is a veteran PR executive who most recently worked as chief public relations spokesperson for MediaOne (now AT&T Broadband) and The Hurwitz Group, a high-tech industry analyst firm. Wood spent nearly five years in corporate communications with Continental Cablevision and MediaOne, where he was the chief spokesman responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with trade, business and consumer press.

“This is a very important strategic development for our firm,” says Bob Gold, president. “By bringing in Dave Wood with his strong media relationships and tremendous reputation in the cable industry, we have immediately established a strong beachhead, not just in Boston but for the entire East Coast.

“Some of our clients, such as Canal+ Technologies, Pioneer and ESPN, are looking to work with a national firm that specializes in supporting companies in the very competitive broadband, cable TV and telecommunications industries.”
