NEW YORK—Weber Shandwick has appointed Barbara Box as president of its New York and Chicago healthcare practice. She joins Weber Shandwick from its sister agency, Golin/Harris International, where she was executive vice president and worldwide director of the healthcare practice.

“Barbara brings a combination of healthcare and consumer public relations experience to Weber Shandwick,” said Laura Schoen, president of Weber Shandwick’s global healthcare practice. “She’s an expert in the areas of strategic positioning, FDA approvals and product launches and physician and patient education.”

At Golin/Harris, Box worked with clients including Bayer, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Abbott, GlaxoSmithKline and an anti-tobacco campaign for the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Prior to Golin/Harris, Box was the director of communications at Ingalls Health System, one of the largest hospital health systems in the Chicago area, and spent four years at Burson-Marsteller where she counseled healthcare and consumer clients.

Weber Shandwick’s healthcare practice has been among the fastest growing in the industry over the past 12 months, with major new assignments including Pfizer’s blockbusters Viagra and Inspra, Boehringer Ingelheim, Astra Zeneca, and Gilead; and growth from existing clients including Lilly and Novartis.
