NEW YORK—Burson-Marsteller has appointed Robert Kapp as strategic advisor for the firm’s US-China specialty group. Kapp has more than four decades of experience in establishing strong, respectful relationships between the United States and China. He will work closely with and report to Daisy King, managing director and head of the US-China specialty group.

In his new role, Kapp will help with overall strategy and new capability development of the specialty group. He will assist with counseling clients and also work to expand the group’s relationships with key industry opinion leaders, as well as current and prospective clients. The group provides communications counsel to US clients with business needs in China and Chinese firms operating in the US.

Kapp previously led the US-China Business Council, the principal organization of American companies engaged in trade and investment with China, for nearly 11 years. In that role, he engaged with US and Chinese government and corporate leaders, key agencies, and policy specialists on a wide range of policy issues. He has since maintained his own consulting practice, Robert A. Kapp & Associates, and serves on a number of nonprofit boards in the US-China relations field.

Earlier in his career, Kapp received his doctorate in modern Chinese history from Yale University, and was the founding executive director of the Washington State China Relations Council.
