HOUSTON—Waste Management has named Barry Caldwell as senior vice president, government affairs and corporate communications, reporting to A. Maurice Myers, chairman, president and chief executive.

Caldwell joins Waste Management from CIGNA Corporation, the Philadelphia-based health insurance and retirement products provider, where he was vice president of government relations. Prior to CIGNA, he was vice president, federal affairs for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and chief of staff for United States Senator Arlen Specter.

According to Myers. “Barry’s knowledge and experience in the areas of federal and state government affairs and communications—and, importantly, using them to drive value for an organization—will be a great asset to our senior leadership team as well as our company overall.”
