QUÉBEC CITY—Cossette Communication Group, the Canadian communications holding company that owns Optimum Public Relations, has acquired The Band & Brown Group, a leading U.K. public relations firm with a focus on technology.

According to François Duffar, president of Cossette Communication Group, “Band & Brown’s Communication without Walls motto squares perfectly with our own Convergent Communication philosophy.”

Added chairman Nick Band, who co-founded The Band & Brown Group with Gill Brown in 1991, “Our clients and our employees will be the first to benefit from our joining Cossette. The Band & Brown Group will be in a better position to expand its customer base abroad while, through us, Cossette gains a market-leading PR resource in Europe.”

Band & Brown has a staff of 85, fee income of £5 million, and its own European network of affiliated agencies. It provides online marketing via its sister agency iJack. Clients include Sony Ericsson, Haribo, LogicaCMG, Cisco Systems, The Royal Navy and BT.

The Band & Brown Group is the second London acquisition in less than a year for Cossette. In
December 2003 the company acquired Identica, a brand consultancy with offices in New York City and soon in Shanghai, China.

The total purchase price includes a closing payment and future payments based on the financial performance of Band & Brown over a period of five years.
