WASHINGTON, DC—Alternative asset management company The Carlyle Group has hired Randall Whitestone as principal and director of communications for the Americas. Whitestone comes to Carlyle from Neuberger Berman, where he served as global head of corporate communications, and will be based in New York.

He will report to Chris Ullman, managing director and head of global communications.

In his new role, Whitestone will lead Carlyle's communications activities in North and South America, including advising senior executives and investment professionals on external and internal communications strategies, as well advising and supporting portfolio companies.

At Neuberger Berman, Whitestone established the firm's corporate communications practice, helping brand the firm as it returned to independence following five years as part of Lehman Brothers. Prior to Neuberger Berman, he served as senior vice president of corporate communications at Lehman, where he was the global head of media relations for the investment management and mortgage capital divisions, as well as chief editor of the firm's annual report.

Earlier, Whitestone was a reporter for nearly 20 years, including stints at Bloomberg News, American Digital Media and The Associated Press.
