NEW YORK—Marilyn Castaldi, who joined Hill & Knowlton two years ago as general manager of the firm’s New York office, has been named chief communications officer for Columbia University Medical Center, formerly Columbia University Health Sciences.

In the newly established post, healthcare public relations veteran Castaldi will report to Dr. Gerald Fischbach, executive vice president for health and biomedical sciences.

Early in her career, Castaldi she served for five years as public relations director for University of Pennsylvania Hospital.  She went on to work for two Fortune 500 companies, Johnson & Johnson and Avon Products, in marketing communications and corporate communications positions. Her agency career began at Hill and Knowlton, where she ultimately became the firm’s U.S. healthcare practice director. At Burson-Marsteller she rose to become executive vice president and managing director, heading the firm’s NY healthcare practice. And at Fleishman-Hillard she established and grew that firm’s healthcare practice into one of the largest in the industry.

In addition, Castaldi currently serves as vice chair of the American Medical Women’s Association Foundation and is a director of The Eye-Bank for Sight Restoration of New York City.
