LONDON—Lloydspharmacy, a leading community pharmacy chain, has appointed Citigate Dewe Rogerson to handle all consumer, professional, issues and corporate communications. The account was previously held by Starfish.

Lloydspharmacy, which is owned by German pharmaceuticals company Celesio, has been transforming itself from a retail chemist into a consumer healthcare business over the past five years.

“We are one of the largest retail businesses in the UK but we have a much lower profile than some of our peers because most of our outlets are in communities rather than on high streets,” said Andy Murdock, chief pharmacist. “CDR’s brief is to help us overcome that barrier and convey the growing role we can play in helping to manage conditions and improve health. CDR presented the strongest strategic and creative mix and demonstrated a clear understanding of how the consumer, professional and corporate agendas interact.”

The account will be led by Steve Marinker, consumer practice director, who will report to Murdock and Sam Hunter, director of corporate communications.

APCO continues to handle public affairs work for Lloydspharmacy.
