CLEVELAND—The Cleveland Catholic Diocese has turned to Dix & Eaton for public relations advice as it deals with charges stemming from allegations of sexual abuse. According to local newspaper reports, prosecutors have been looking into 800 allegations of abuse on church records, more than 100 of which involved priests.

According to the diocese’s PR man Bob Tayek, “We’ve got some complicated issues, and we needed some outside perspective.” He did not say how much the diocese would be paying D&E.

Managing director Kevin Donahue will be handling the account, bringing greater experience in crisis management to the in-house team’s expertise.

Other firms handling abuse issues for the church include Sitrick & Company in Los Angeles; Morrissey & Company in Boston; Rubenstein Associates in Nassau and Suffolk counties, New York; Fleishman-Hillard in St. Louis; and Public Communications in Chicago.
