MADISON, NJ—Communications Strategies has been awarded the marketing communications account for Duramed’s Plan B emergency contraceptive product. Duramed is a subsidiary of Barr Pharmaceuticals.

CSI is also the PR agency of record for Duramed’s Seasonale extended-cycle oral contraceptive product, which was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in September 2003.

“As the leading provider of oral contraceptives in the United States, we are committed to the women’s health and to educating consumers and healthcare providers about the availability of Plan B emergency oral contraceptive product and its appropriate usage,” said Carol Cox, Barr’s vice president of corporate communications.  “CSI’s extensive work in the area of women’s health issues and its proven public relations track record on women’s healthcare products made CSI the logical choice to provide public relations support for our Plan B product.”

“Our focus for Plan B emergency contraceptive is to educate physicians, pharmacists and consumers that a safe, effective FDA-approved method of emergency contraception is currently available by prescription,” said CSI president Donna Pepe. “Education and awareness are critical for women who find themselves in a situation when other contraceptive methods have unexpectedly failed, have not been used appropriately or at all, or in cases of sexual assault.”
