NEW YORK—The American Lung Association, which celebrates its centennial in June, is launching a national public relations campaign to highlight the organization’s historical milestones and future initiatives and has selected CooperKatz & Company to plan and execute the communications effort.

Founded in 1904 to fight tuberculosis, the American Lung Association—the oldest voluntary health organization in the United States—fights lung disease in all its forms, with special emphasis on asthma, tobacco control and environmental health.

The centennial public relations campaign, aimed at increasing national awareness, will include a high-visibility event in New York City’s Bryant Park on June 3. The America’s Most Powerful Lungs Competition will seek to find a healthy-lunged individual who can hold the longest, loudest note.
