DALLAS—Belo Corp., a media company with a diversified group of television, newspaper, cable and interactive media properties, has named R. Paul Fry vice president of investor relations and corporate communications. Fry has served in various corporate finance and operating roles since joining Belo in 1990, and has been president and general manager of Belo’s KGW-TV, the NBC affiliate in Portland, Ore., since November 2002. In his new role, Fry will report to Dennis Williamson, Belo’s executive vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to his tenure at KGW, Fry served as president and general manager of Northwest Cable News and in the same role at KONG-TV in Seattle/Tacoma.
IRVING, TX—Flowserve Corp., a leader in fluid motion and control, has named Lars Rosene vice president, global communications and public affairs. Rosene most recently served as director of global communications and public affairs for the company. In this new role, Rosene will be responsible for global reputation and brand management, public relations, media relations, employee communications, government affairs, advertising, community relations and corporate philanthropy. He will report to Lewis Kling, Flowserve’s president and chief executive. Rosene came to Flowserve from Citigroup where he served as vice president and director of communications and public affairs. Prior to that, he served in leadership roles in communications, public affairs and human resources at State Farm Insurance Companies.
CARROLLTON, TX—Carlson Restaurants Worldwide, parent company of T.G.I. Friday’s and Pick Up Stix restaurants, has promoted Amy Freshwater to vice president, communication and public relations. Freshwater, who will report jointly to Anne Varano, senior vice president human resources and communication, and Kim Olson, Carlson’s chief communications officer, has responsibility for all aspects of corporate communication, public relations and crisis management for the T.G.I. Friday’s and Pick Up Stix brands.
MEMPHIS, TN—Ken Ferber has joined St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and ALSAC to serve as chief communications officer and senior vice president, overseeing public relations and communications staffs at both institutions. ALSAC is the hospital’s fundraising organization. Ferber most recently served as the staff vice president of corporate communications at WellPoint and also held senior positions for the Los Angeles Police Commission, International Medical Corp., National Center for Health Education and the National Center for Disabilities.
ORLANDO, FL—The Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau has named Danielle Saba Courtenay senior vice president of global publicity and public affairs. Courtenay joined the Orlando CVB as director of public relations in 1995 and was named vice president in 1998.
