Pharmasset, a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company, has appointed Richard Smith as its new vice president of investor relations and corporate communications, plus new people in new positions at Whiting Petroleum and The Gas Company.

PRINCETON, NJ—Pharmasset, a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company, has appointed Richard Smith as its new vice president of investor relations and corporate communications. Smith will be responsible for all investor relations functions and will report directly to CFO, Kurt Leutzinger. Most recently, HE was a vice president and senior biotechnology analyst at JPMorgan Securities, and has been an analyst in the sector since 2000.

 

DENVER—Whiting Petroleum Corporation, an independent oil and gas company, has named Jack Ekstrom executive director, investor relations and corporate communications. Ekstrom joined Whiting with 35 years of experience in the petroleum industry. Most recently he held management positions with Pioneer Natural Resources and Evergreen Resources.

 

HONOLULU—The Gas Company, Hawaii's largest provider of gas energy, has named Stephanie Ackerman as vice president, public policy and communications. Ackerman will direct the company's corporate communications, public relations, government affairs, and community outreach programs. Prior to joining The Gas Company, Ackerman was senior vice president for Aloha Airlines.
