LOS ANGELES, July 20—David De Pinto and Robert Morales, who worked together at Ketchum and most recently at Stoorza Communications—where De Pinto was president—have launched their own public relations firm, De Pinto Morales Communications. The firm will offer a wide range of PR and marketing services, with a focus on public affairs, consumer technology and ethnic marketing.

De Pinto says he and Morales researched market conditions in California before launching their new firm. They found that despite the slowed economy and industry consolidations, there was pent-up demand for hands-on, senior level counsel and for independent, entrepreneurial firms as an alternative to international agencies.

“I can’t tell you how liberated I feel,’ De Pinto says. “One of the great advantages of starting a small firm is that we have zero overhead. We can grow as fast as revenue allows.”

De Pinto says the firm will have particularly attractive capabilities in two areas. First, the firm will offer a specialized Hispanic communications capability, spanning both marketing communications and public affairs (Morales was previously chief of staff to state senator Art Torres and has extensive political campaign experience). The firm will be registered with state agencies as a minority owned business.

“We are also in an ideal position to serve clients who are looking for an intimate knowledge of the California market,” says De Pinto. “Both Bob and I have worked on national and international business, we both know California intimately.”

Several past clients of the two, including Waste Management—for which De Pinto and Morales have consulted for more than a decade—have entered into long-term agreements with the new firm.

De Pinto says the firm will also expand into the technology realm and is looking to add senior staff with technology experience later this year. The firm is currently recruiting, and De Pinto says both he and Morales are dedicated to building a people-friendly organization. Adds Morales, “Dave and I have developed a strong partnership over the years, and have always focused on client and employee loyalty. We believe that if you put people first, in both the client and employee relationships, success follows.”

De Pinto and Morales have worked together for more than 10 years in the communications field, most recently with Stoorza, where De Pinto was president and chief executive officer and Morales was senior vice president and assistant general manager. Previously, they worked with Ketchum, where De Pinto was partner and general manager of the firm’s Los Angeles office, and Morales was senior VP. De Pinto formerly served as director of market development and public relations for Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Los Angeles and as an executive with Pacific/West Communications.
