Dowling Promoted to VP Comms at FirstEnergy

Michael Dowling, currently vice president, governmental affairs, has been promoted to vice president, communications, for FirstEnergy Corp., a diversified energy company. He will succeed FirstEnergy vice president, communications, Ralph DiNicola.

AKRON, OH—Michael Dowling, currently vice president, governmental affairs, has been promoted to vice president, communications, for FirstEnergy Corp., a diversified energy company. He will succeed FirstEnergy vice president, communications, Ralph DiNicola, who has elected to retire effective April 1, 2009.

 

Dowling began his career at Ohio Edison in 1986 as a member of the communications department. In 1990, he joined the governmental affairs department and was named manager of federal governmental affairs in 1997. He was named vice president of federal governmental affairs in 2001, following the merger of FirstEnergy Corp. and the former GPU, Inc. In 2004, Dowling was promoted to vice president of supply chain. He was named vice president of governmental affairs in December 2005.

 

DiNicola joined Ohio Edison in 1978 as advertising coordinator. He was promoted to director of public information in 1981 and served in a number of public and news media relations positions before being named vice president of communications in 2004.
