REDWOOD CITY, CA—Eastwick Communications has named Joel Postman executive vice president of emerging media. Postman, a blogger and most recently the director of executive communications for the worldwide enterprise business group at Hewlett-Packard, will lead the agency’s delivery of blogs, podcasts, wikis and other new communications tools to clients, and will help track the impact of these emerging technologies on PR, corporate communications and business strategy.
At Hewlett-Packard, Postman managed the executive communications team, supporting all commercial business units; launched Nora Denzel’s Agility Radio, widely acknowledged to be the first true podcast by a senior IT executive; and launched his own blog. Prior to HP, he was the senior speechwriter for the then CEO and chairman of Sun Microsystems, Scott McNealy and before that held a variety of management positions with responsibility for marketing and PR, and was CEO of TPS Electronics, a manufacturer and systems integrator of bar code, magnetic stripe, and smart card hardware and software.
“As intriguing and trendy as social media technologies are, they must be viewed not in isolation, but in the context of a strategic communications plan that clearly supports a company’s business goals,” says Postman. “Clients should neither fear nor blindly embrace social media initiatives. Eastwick has understood this from the start, which is why the agency is more than a thought leader on the impact of social media on PR. It is a leader in helping clients use these technologies with measurable success.”
