SAN FRANCISCO—Edelman has expanded its U.S. food and nutrition offering by establishing a dedicated practice for foodservice and food manufacturing companies. Susan Hughes, most recently the principal of her own specialist food communications firm, has joined the firm to lead the new group.

Hughes will direct the food service and food technology communications programs for the Almond Board of California. She is based in the San Francisco office, reporting to general manager Nicole Didda.

According to Bill Layden, executive vice president and U.S. director for food & nutrition, “Susan’s extensive trade experience and multi-faceted skill set bring a new synergy to the vision and objectives of the Edelman food team, positioning us to offer clients a more far-reaching and complete range of food marketing and promotion services, and opening new opportunities for growth.”

Hughes began her career in Wisconsin, where she held a series of posts promoting the state’s cheeses for the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. She started her own firm in 1994, implementing marketing communications programs for a variety of consumer and foodservice clients, among them Torani/R. Torre & Co., Clear Springs Foods, the California Avocado Commission and the California Fresh Apricot Council.
