LONDON—Edelman has opened an office in Warsaw, Poland, the firm’s first wholly-owned office in Eastern Europe.

Edelman Poland is led by Barbara Kwiecien, who previously ran Ziawzek Firm Public Relations, one of Poland’s leading independent PR agencies for the past three years. The operation includes 11 professionals specializing in corporate reputation and consumer marketing, and represents clients across the automotive, consumer, pharmaceutical and technology sectors.

“Several of our global clients are asking for capabilities on the ground in this rapidly expanding market and I’m thrilled that we are now able to support them with a sizeable operation and a proven leader from day one,” says David Brain, president of Edelman Europe.

Poland is the largest market among the 10 nations that joined the European Union on May 1 and is also among the most politically active of the new EU members. It is seen as a leader in pursuing policies of economic liberalization and in 2004 the country’s GDP grew 5.6 percent, among the highest growth of any European Union member.

“Polish companies are expanding into Western Europe and beyond, and require a global communications partner to support their growth,” says Kwiecien.
