MILAN—Edelman Public Relations Worldwide has been selected to provide international public relations services to Italian food giant Barilla. The firm will focus on developing Barilla’s corporate brand equity and positioning in the United States, Germany, France, Italy, the Nordics, Spain, and secondary markets Switzerland, Austria and Portugal.

“This is a tremendous win for Edelman for several reasons,” said Rosanna D’Antona, Edelman’s European president & CEO.  “We value the confidence of a company with a historic past going back 125 years and much a part of the Italian food culture. The win also strengthens the notion that there are great opportunities for PR companies in certain areas of the consumer goods industry. Even at a time of regional and global economic uncertainty, companies that provide goods and services necessary for the average person, have an ongoing and even increasing need to reach out to its constituents.”

Barilla is the largest food group in Italy and one of the leading pasta producers in the world. In addition to its Barilla brand of pasta products, the company offers a variety of bakery goods under the brands Mulino Bianco, Pavesi, Voiello. It also sells in various international markets under the Wasa (Nordics, Germany), Misko (Greece) and Filiz (Turkey) brands.

“We are focused on strengthening our market position in the countries we’re already doing business in and hoping to expand into new markets in the coming future,” said Emilio De Piazza, Barilla’s global communication director.  “Building and strengthening our corporate brand became essential to achieving our growth strategy.”
