STAMFORD, December 14—Environics Communications, a Canadian public relations firm that has made an impressive investment in the U.S. in recent years, has acquired the Toronto operations of Argyle Rowland Worldwide, a longstanding affiliate of Rowland Worldwide.

The acquired company will continue to operate as an affiliate of Rowland, and Rowland president Mark Weiss says he welcomed the deal, which will give his firm a relationship with one of Canada’s independent largest public relations firms, with 75 employees and offices in Toronto and Montreal. The firm grew 20 percent in its seventh year, and now has fees of $8.8 million.

According to Environics president Bruce MacLellan, “We are delighted to expand our market position by adding Argyle’s talented team of professionals and strong client base. Argyle will continue to operate as a separate business although we will build synergies in areas such as professional development, administration and financial operations.”

In addition to its two Canadian offices, Environics has opened in Washington, D.C., and Stamford, Conn., where it recently hired Rosalind D’Eugenio to lead its expanding health care and medical team in the United States. D’Eugenio was previously director of national media for Yale University's 300th Anniversary. She also held positions at Stawasz & Partners Public Relations in New York City and the March of Dimes National Headquarters.

“As volatility continues at other agencies, there is a tremendous opportunity for our firm to deliver creative campaigns with measurable results,” says Paul Larsen, senior vice president and general manager of the Stamford office. “As we further develop our North American health care practice, Rosalind’s command of the industry, coupled with her extensive communications and public relations experience, will be valuable assets.”
