CHICAGO—Financial Dynamics has hired Chicago Tribune reporter Karen Mellen as an assistant vice president in its recently-established Chicago office.

Mellen, a journalist for more than 10 years, won the 2005 Peter Lisagor Award for deadline reporting, and was part of the Tribune team awarded the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for explanatory journalism for a series of stories on breakdowns in the aviation system in America.

“Karen Mellen brings a keen understanding of the communications issues facing business, government and intellectual leaders throughout the country, gleaned from her distinguished career in journalism, and we are pleased that she has joined Financial Dynamics’ growing Chicago office,” said Harlan Teller, Financial Dynamics’ managing director for the Midwest region.

Mellen previously worked as a reporter at the Daily Southtown in Tinley Park, Illinois and at the Daily Journal in Kankakee, Illinois.  She holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Butler University.
