WASHINGTON, D.C.— John “Jake” Sargent, Jr. has joined Brunswick Group as an associate. Sargent, most recently deputy communications director for the House Rules Committee, will be based in Brunswick’s Washington D.C. office. He will focus on high stakes communications surrounding public affairs issues and political risk management.

At the House Rules Committee, which sets the terms of debate for bills considered by the House of Representatives, he assisted in developing the messaging strategy for major legislation and wrote speeches and editorials for the committee’s chairman. Prior to moving to Washington, Sargent worked for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as a speechwriter and helped manage press relations for departments including the California Department of Transportation and the Department of Financial Institutions.

Before his government service, he worked in the Boston and San Francisco offices of the investment management firm Gannett Welsh & Kotler.
