INDIANAPOLIS—Edward West, a veteran of senior corporate communications positions at drugmaker Eli Lilly, has joined Anthem, the fifth largest publicly traded health benefits company in the U.S., in the newly created position of vice president of corporate communications. He will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy “to assist Anthem in the achievement of its strategic business objectives.”
In addition, West will serve as the company’s chief corporate spokesman on local and national media issues, ensure the linkage of effective external and internal communications programs and guide the company’s community relations activities.
West recently retired from Eli Lilly, where he was executive director of public relations, after a 31-year career during which he held positions in sales, marketing, government relations and corporate communications. He served as Lilly chief corporate spokesman on a variety of issues with local, national and international media for nearly 20 years.
Said West, “From Anthem’s mission of improving the health of the people it serves to the core values shared by its employees, everything about the company speaks to a commitment to excellence and outstanding customer focus.”
