SAN FRANCISCO—Proof Integrated Communications, the advertising, digital and integrated communications subsidiary of Burson-Marsteller, has appointed Brian Purchia and Michael Beno as directors. Purchia will be based in San Francisco and report to Proof chief executive officer Jay Leveton and managing director for the U.S. Digital practice Bill Kemp. Beno will be based in Chicago and will also report to Leveton and Kemp.

Most recently, Purchia was deputy communications director and tech advisor for the office of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, specializing in new media. By helping Mayor Newsom attract 1.3 million Twitter followers and moving the city’s 311 system to Twitter, he established Newsom’s digital presence and helped position San Francisco as the “Gov 2.0” leader. Before serving as deputy communications director, Purchia was Newsom’s new media director for his re-election campaign.

Prior to Proof, Beno was a vice president at Ruder Finn, where he worked with clients including crowdSPRING, Eagle Snacks, IEEE, The Poetry Foundation, Southwest Airlines, StubHub and TiVo.
