HANOVER—AWD Holding, the German financial services broker, has hired Bela Anda, spokesman for former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, as head of communications. Anda, will be in charge of press, marketing and sponsorship activities for the company from April 1
Anda worked as a reporter for German tabloid Bild Zeitung before becoming vice-spokesman for the German government in 1999. He was Schroeder’s spokesman from 2002 until the election of a new government last year. At AWD he will replace Folkert Mindermann, 63, who has decided to step down, the company said in a statement.
Shares of AWD, which had grown rapidly because of the Schroeder government’s drive to encourage private pension saving, dropped 24 percent last year, due primarily to a sharp decline after the company admitted full-year revenue may fall as much as 16 percent to €600 million amid a “challenging economic situation and ongoing moderate demand in Germany.”
