Former Schwarzenegger Aide Joins Mercury in Sacramento

Steve Schmidt, former campaign manager for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and senior White House strategist, has joined Mercury Public Affairs as a partner, based in the firm’s Sacramento office.

SACRAMENTO— Steve Schmidt, former campaign manager for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and senior White House strategist, has joined Mercury Public Affairs as a partner, based in the firm’s Sacramento office.

Prior to joining the Schwarzenegger campaign, Schmidt served as a member of the White House senior staff as deputy assistant to the President, and played a leading role in the confirmations of Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito to the United States Supreme Court. Schmidt has also served in Baghdad, where he performed a month-long assessment of media relations in the war zone at the behest of U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalizad. 

Mercury Public Affairs is owned by Omnicom and functions as a part of Fleishman-Hillard’s public affairs operations.
