Freud Taps Miramax Exec to Spearhead U.S. Expansion

British entertainment and consumer PR giant Freud Communications, has hired Matthew Hiltzik, formerly senior vice president of corporate communications and government relations at Miramax Films to lead its expansion into the U.S. market.

NEW YORK—British entertainment and consumer PR giant Freud Communications, which recently sold a majority stake to French communications holding company Publicis, has hired Matthew Hiltzik, formerly senior vice president of corporate communications and government relations at Miramax Films to lead its expansion into the U.S. public relations business.

Hiltzik will offer “high-level, strategic” advice to new and existing clients and will be based in New York. Services will include crisis and issues management, media relations, corporate branding, and entertainment marketing services.

At Miramax, he was spokesman for co-chairmen Bob and Harvey Weinstein and managing a wide variety of projects including Oscar campaigns and communications with other Miramax divisions. Miramax is a long-standing Freud client.

Previously, Hiltzik spent two years as press secretary and deputy executive director for the New York State Democratic Committee, working on the 1998 campaigns for Senator Charles Schumer and Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. He also helped to coordinate Hillary Clinton’s 1999 “Listening Tour” and served as director of Jewish relations for her U.S. Senate run in 2000.
