WEST PALM BEACH, FL—The strategic communications operations of FTI Consulting—the former FD—enjoyed a strong second quarter of 2013, with revenues up by 8.4 percent to $50.6 million compared to $46.6 million in the same quarter last year.

The increase in revenues included a $1.5 million contribution from the acquisition of US public affairs firm C2 Group in March, as well as increased pass-through revenues for retained clients in North America and improved project income in both North America and EMEA.

EBITDA for the strategic communications operation was $5.2 million or 10.3 percent of revenues, compared to $5.0 million or 10.7 percent of segment revenues in the prior year quarter, with the group saying that margins were adversely impacted by a greater proportion of low-margin pass-through revenues.

Overall, the management consulting group’s revenues increased 4.6 percent to $414.6 million compared to $396.2 million in the prior year quarter. Earnings per share were $0.58 for the quarter compared to $0.18 in the prior year quarter
