NEW YORK—The Father’s Day/Mother’s Day Council has hired global public relations firm GCI Group to spearhead media strategy and promotion of its annual Father of the Year/Outstanding Mother Awards held in New York City.  The National Father’s Day/Mother’s Day Council is a not-for-profit, non-commercial organization that strives to heighten the meaning and observance of Father’s and Mother’s Day and raise funds for philanthropic purposes.

“GCI Group’s clear understanding of the media and strong focus on measurable results made them a natural fit for the Council,” said Stuart Goldblatt, president of the Father’s Day/Mother’s Day Council and senior vice president of Federated Merchandising Group. “We are very pleased to be partnering with a global agency that shares our mission of promoting the vital role of mothers and fathers in the family unit and celebrating exceptional parents throughout the country.”

GCI Group will focus its efforts in three key areas: driving coverage surrounding the announcement of the Council’s honorees, promoting the Father of the Year and Outstanding Mother Awards ceremonies in New York City and raising awareness of the Council’s cause and key executives.  Past honorees have included Tom Brokaw, Colin Powell, General Richard B. Meyers, Bernard Kerik and Isiah Thomas as Fathers of the Year, and Soledad O’Brien, Christie Brinkley, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Mary Higgins Clark and Doris Roberts as Mothers of the Year.
