NEW YORK—GolinHarris, DeVries Public Relations, Chandler Chicco Agency and Weber Shandwick were among the big winners at this year’s annual SABRE Awards Dinner, held at the New York Sheraton Hotel last Tuesday and attended by close to 900 professionals.
GolinHarris took home a grand total of seven awards on the night, including Large Agency of the Year and Agency of the Year, two Gold SABRE Awards (for best work in a practice area) and three Bronze SABREs (for best PR products). Weber Shandwick tied for the most awards on the night, also with seven, including six Golds and one Silver SABRE (for best work in an industry sector).
Chandler Chicco won Healthcare Agency of the Year and Specialist Agency of the Year, a Gold SABRE, two Bronze SABREs, and an Iron SABRE (for PR management).
DeVries won the Platinum SABRE Award for the best public relations program of 2007 for its cause-related marketing work on behalf of Procter & Gamble’s Pantene brand, beating out four other finalists for the top honor: GolinHarris, for its work launching the Wii gaming platform for Nintendo; Dittus Communications and Shell Oil for the company’s outreach to the Gulf Coast community following last year’s hurricanes; Ketchum, for its work on behalf of the Kremlin managing media relations for the G8 summit in Moscow; and Manning Selvage & Lee and General Motors for their use of blogs to fight back against an attack by New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman.
Other multiple winners included Edelman with six awards; Fleishman-Hillard, Ketchum and Manning Selvage & Lee with five each; CKPR, Porter Novelli and Text 100 with four each; Burson-Marsteller, MWW Group and Ruder Finn with three; and APCO Worldwide, Coyne PR, Davies Public Affairs, Fast Horse, Financial Dynamics, Frecnh/West/Vaughan, GCI Group and M Booth & Associates with two apiece.
