Grayling has won a major six-figure brief to handle PR for European pipeline giant Nabucco. The agency has been tasked with providing PR and public affairs support across Europe, following a three-way pitch.

The account covers international PR activity in London and Brussels, along with other markets through which the Nabucco pipeline runs: Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

The Nabucco pipeline is Europe's flagship pipeline project in the southern corridor. The 3,300km pipeline will connect the world's richest gas regions - the Caspian region, Middle East and Egypt - to the Turkish and European consumer markets. Construction is due to start in 2011 with the first gas flowing in 2014.

The account is headed up by Chris Dobson, Grayling's head of Central and Eastern Europe, and Grayling corporate MD Louise Ballard. The campaign will be led out of London in conjunction with Grayling's CEE offices, supported by Russell Patten - Grayling's newly appointed head of energy, environment and industry in Brussels.

"We felt that Grayling's offer was superior in that it would provide us with a centrally coordinated and highly effective one-stop shop for all our communications needs," said Nabucco Gas head of comms and public affairs Christian Dolezal in a statement.
