NEW YORK—Hill & Knowlton has hired Barbara Edler as senior vice president and U.S. director of internal communications, a specialty of the firm’s corporate and financial practice. Edler will be based in the firm’s San Francisco office and takes over the practice from David Langston, who joined Ruder Finn last month.

“Barbara has spent more than 20 years counseling on enterprise-wide cultural challenges, and successfully aligning corporate strategies with efforts to motivate employees,” says Ron Hartwig, practice director. “As the economy continues its recovery, business organizations are finding a greater need for expert counsel on how best to handle communications with their employees. Barbara’s leadership of our IC group will ensure that Hill & Knowlton remains top-of-mind for companies and organizations seeking this expertise.”

Edler joins H&K from Burson-Marsteller, where she was managing director for the West Coast corporate and financial practice, and leader of its organizational communications team. Her clients there included Accenture, CDW, ChevronTexaco, GNC, Gymboree, Immunex, Levi Strauss, Lucile Packard
Children’s Hospital, Mattel, McDonald’s, Stanford University Medical Center, Sara Lee Corporation, Visteon, and Washington Mutual.

Prior to B-M, she served for four years as assistant vice president of institutional marketing and PR at Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga and ran her own marketing and PR agency, Edler & Associates in Oakland.
