WASHINGTON, D.C.—A week after naming Sheila Fagan to head its New York healthcare practice, Hill & Knowlton has hired William Reynolds (Reyn) Archer III, a medical doctor with over 10 years of public health experience, as senior managing director and head of the Washington, D.C. healthcare practice. The firm continues to search for a U.S. practice leader to replace Kathy Cripps, who left to lead the Council of Public Relations Firms.

“With his credentials as a physician and his first-hand understanding of public health and health policy issues, Reyn will be a critical advisor to our current clients, as well as a tremendous asset in attracting new business,” said Tom Hoog, chairman of Hill & Knowlton U.S.

In addition to building a thriving obstetrics practice in Fairfax, Va., in the late eighties, Archer recently served as commissioner of health for the Texas Department of Health from 1997 to 2000. Under his leadership the Department tackled Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance and codification of essential public health services – the first of its kind in the country.

Previously, Archer was a senior medical advisor to Project HOPE, where he advised on Eastern European issue and spent two years in Kazakhstan.
