NEW YORK, June 19—Mary Hancock, former senior vice president and general manager of the Silicon Valley office of Ketchum, has joined the San Francisco office of GCI Group as senior vice president. She will lead the office’s media relations practice.

GCI has been rebuilding its Bay Area operations after the departure earlier this year of general manager Martin Alintuck and the aborted acquisition of Wilson McHenry. It recently named former Hill & Knowlton exec Rick Rice as general manager.

“Mary brings a valuable combination of agency and client-side experience to this role and has demonstrated a consistent ability to apply strong leadership skills for her clients and the people working with her,” said Rice.

At Ketchum, Hancock led the Intuit account, overseeing a team of 16 and managing a $2.6 million budget.  Previously, she served as senior managing director for Hill & Knowlton San Francisco, where she built and managed a global corporate communications account team on behalf of E*Trade.  She also spent three years in the corporate communications department of Pacific Bell, where she focused on communications planning, message development, issues management and media relations.

GCI San Francisco’s clients include Visa International, Xirlink, Dell and Starbucks.
