WASHINGTON, D.C.—Hecla Mining Company has selected the Consortium for Risk & Crisis Communication (comprised of Widmeyer Communications and the Center for Risk Communication) to help the company fine-tune communication policies and procedures for communicating in the event of a mining emergency and to practice the skills needed for effective response.

The Consortium will begin its work by assessing the company’s communications strengths and challenges, through review of current policies, an online survey and individual interviews. Further work will involve a proprietary message mapping and risk communication training, a table-top communication exercise, and a full-scale functional communication exercise.

Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, has exploration properties and operating mines in five major mining districts.
