COPENHAGEN—Hill & Knowlton has acquired a 51 percent shareholding in the Danish PR firm, ABC Public Relations. The acquisition strengthens Hill & Knowlton’s Nordic region, which has existing offices in Finland, Sweden and Norway. The company will continue under the name ABC Hill & Knowlton.

After 17 years in business, ABC, based in Copenhagen, is one of the oldest public relations firms in Denmark. Its specialties include healthcare, technology, finance, and food, and clients include Jabra (GN Netcom), GlaxoSmithKline, Unilever, Tiscali and MSD. Hill & Knowlton and ABC have worked together since July 2003.

The change in ownership has no effect on ABC’s management or organisational structure. Jens Kofoed and Søren Kofoed will continue as managing directors. Kim Nyberg, CEO and chairman of Hill & Knowlton northern and central-eastern Europe, becomes chairman of the board of directors of ABC Hill & Knowlton.

“For some time we have sought to acquire a part of ABC,” says Nyberg. “Over many years ABC has shown that it is capable of delivering impact for its clients. ABC is a very well run company that can help strengthen us in the Nordic market—strategically as well as commercially.”
