DES PLAINES, IL—Blyth HomeScents International, North America, a leading player in the $2.5 billion home fragrance category, has appointed Wheatley & Timmons as its public relations agency of record after a review.

The agency has been retained to support BHI-NA’s Colonial brand of home fragrance products including scented candles, electric home fragrances, botanical and liquid potpourri and portable air fresheners. The company is accelerating its efforts to secure additional share in every segment of the market where it competes.

“One of our goals is to present consumers with new information about the psychological benefits of home fragrance and in doing so to develop incremental equity in our brand as well as sell-through at the store level,” said John Lanman, vice president of marketing for Blyth HomeScents.

According to Lanman, the agency was awarded the business based on creative solutions for building consumer interest in its products that are also relevant and effective for placement in editorial media.
