CHICAGO—Household International, a wholly owned subsidiary of HSBC Holdings, has selected Ketchum as its public relations agency of record. Ketchum will develop programming and provide counsel for the company’s full scope of communications needs, including support for its consumer lending and retail services business units.

Household, the oldest consumer finance company in the United States, made the appointment after a competitive search.

Ketchum’s Chicago office will manage the account, with support from its New York and Washington, D.C., offices. Mike Hatcliffe, head of the corporate practice for Ketchum Midwest (Ketchum’s Chicago and Pittsburgh offices) will lead the account.  “

“We have a wide range of communications needs and Ketchum has a proven track record in areas that are vitally important to us—reputation management and consumer marketing, and extensive knowledge of the financial services industry,” said Mark Friedlander, director of public relations for Household International.
